Today was a busy day around here.Silas had a dentist appt. scheduled with a pediatric dentist in the northern part of the state this morning. While Dad took Silas in to his appt. Mom and the other children did school in the van.We actually learned quite a bit about town meeting today so that was fun.Even Mercy was interested in the book.

We stopped at the discount food store on the way to pick up Granola bars for an on the go breakfast treat.See that sticky Faithie face?

Learning how to dress a baby.....
Our most precious baby.....:)We cannot believe how fast she has learned to play with her baby dolls. She absolutely LOVES them.It is so cute to watch.

Emma and Lydia were in the very last seat of the van.

Sorry about the blurry Hosea picture,no flash.

We told the kids they could share our "old" camera. It does not work consistently and takes awful indoor pictures but the kids are enjoying it anyway.Josh told them they can each have their own memory card but they do not each need their "own" camera.

Dad and Silas coming out of the dentist.Thank you Grandma D for the dress shoes.

I had gotten a coupon one day for $5 at Once Upon a Child. No minimum purchase. So I knew I wanted to get a pair of Robeez for Mercy for this summer. These butterfly ones were perfect.I spent (out of pocket)$2 and that included buying an adorable summer hat as well.

What can you buy with 99 cents?A gingerbread house from the Discount food store. It doesn't expire till August. My kids have been wanting to do one and this one was cheaper then making one from scratch.Although,we do want to try that someday.

Mercy wants Joe to see she has a new monkey.:)

Mercy's BEST monkey face.I really think she does this intentionally. It is too cute.

A work in progress. How many kids can crowd around a childrens table?Eight so far!

Silas LOVED the decorating part.

Some of the artists with their masterpiece.

Under construction.....this is our kitchen. We LOVE our cupboards but this set up was not working so well.At least not for us.

This picture is embarrassing but it is what our kitchen USUALLY looks like.See how narrow that space is?It is very hard to walk, cook, clean there. When I am pregnant it is even more narrow.Okay my husband would say( the space) actually stayed the same size but well you can picture it.Anytime Salinn and I try to cook, bake,do dishes or anything else together it is ALMOST impossible to move.I am not complaining but wanted to point out the reasons WHY we are changing things around a bit.Anytime we open the oven the door it hits the drawers and we always worry that a child will fall on it.So we had to make some changes.

The first change was to take down the upper cupboard over the sink.We are going to be moving the whole sink base Lord willing.....giving us a little more space. We bought an old farmhouse sink off Craig's List and that should be a little easier to use as the sides are a little wider I think and the water from drying dishes should drain back into the sink .We will use the old cupboards later, maybe in our bathroom. It will be awhile before it is exactly put back together but we have to start somewhere.I honestly do not mind when things are not "pretty" as long as they function well.Anyway, thanks for stopping by our "haven" tonight.
14 sweet notes:
Love those cabinets too but I agree, that's a bit teeny tiny :-0
How fun to be able to move things around and make them better suited to your family. What a blessing.
Love the pictures of Mercy. Too cute!

I love long, rambling posts with a little of everything :). I did not know your washer was in the kitchen? I love construction projects (actually, I only like the destruction part ... the put back together project takes too long). When we tore out our kitchen 12 years ago I told Cliff that it was already ugly and it would be nice to at least have some space :). Emma and Lydia look so much a like in the picture. You will have to let me know where the discount food store is. The Robeez are cute! What size is she in? I looked at ours the other day and the smallest pair (Mrs. V gave us) looked huge next to Leah's feet. Good job on the Gingerbread house! Did you have any candy that did not make it on the house :)?
I think your right about Mercy making her monkey face! She is so cute :). Joe can't go into stores ... he finds monkeys everywhere :). Looks like you all had a really BUSY, good day :).
Wow, Nikki, what a day! The pictures are great and I am so amazed at all that Mercy can do at this age -- playing with dolls, making monkey faces intentionally, and so on. She seems very advanced!
I think you have done amazingly well to do all that you do in that kitchen, and am so thankful that changes are being made for it to be more functional and safe. The gingerbread house turned out great! Gotta love those clearance gingerbread house kits. They are fun any time of year in my opinion.
Have a wonderful weekend! Guess there's some snow headed our way.
Hi, Nikki; thank you for your sweet note over on my blog. I had actually just stumbled on yours a few days prior and thought it was pretty funny to see your name pop up =D You have a gorgeous family; congratulations on Mercy! Last I saw her she was just a "bump". I've enjoyed getting to see what you're all up to. Has the sap been running well?
I can't believe you are tackling your kitchen. Great job!
The finished gingerbread house looked wonderful. The kids did a great job.

Cinnamon,
Thank you for visiting.:)Our kitchen has been so teeny tiny but just taking down the one cupboard has opened up that space.I am really hoping that though,it won't be pretty it will be more doable.
Joey,
Yes our washer has been in our kitchen forever. It works.:)Mercy is in the 0-6 mos.Robeez and since they run big I imagine they would be huge on Leah.Although,I did notice in your last post that she grew out of her tights.:)The kids ate any remaining candy on that gingerbread house.I think it is funny that there are so many monkeys around.Mercy's was leftover from Valentines day so it was 75% off.Her monkey face is so funny.:)
Hi Mrs.T,
I do not think Mercy is advanced but it sure is cute to see her hold her babies, drop them, pick them up again. We LOVE that monkey face.It makes us laugh everytime(which is probably why she does it.)It is funny the things you notice they do when you sit back and watch.:)I think I missed alot of that my first couple babies.
Meredith,
I had to go see your blog when I found out you had one.Henri was so new when we saw you last. She is so cute.I loved her birth announcement that you sent to my Grandma....her smile is too cute. That is funny that you had come across our blog before. What a small world.
Mrs.R,
Tackling my kitchen probably about sums it up!!!!:)It may not be any better just no sink we shall see.You know how we do things in this house....make it work with what you have and go from there.:)
Hi Nikki, Love the pics of the children in the car. So patient for them to sit and wait... Mercy's monkey face really makes me smile. What a cutie she is. Love her round face and smile... And HOW do you keep her bows on her head. Most kids pull them off as fast as you can put them on.
Good luck working on your kitchen. I can see where it might be a tight squeeze when both you and Salinn are in it... Having the washer in the kitchen is perfect. As a Mom is ALWAYS in the kitchen it seems.
Well, have a great day and thanks for the wonderful posts... Love seeing them all.
Love, Aunt Karen
Hi Aunt Karen,
I must admit it has been pretty convenient to have the washer in the kitchen.:)The only disadvantage is that it is obvious when we get behind....:)Thankfully the children are pretty patient waiting....but doing school helped pass the time as well.We are NEVER bored.:)I honestly have NEVER heard that word come out of any of their mouths as there is always something to do or someone to talk to.:)I like that.:)
WOW! that will be such a blessing to open up the kitchen and move things around. Yes, it is a narrow space for sure. Glad you can get this going. You'll sure love it. I thought the pics of the children doing the gingerbread house were great. LOVED Mercy's new monkey, and the great thrift store finds.
Nikki,
I am catching up with your blogs again...always wonderful to hear about your lives, and oh, how busy you always are!!
I am sorry to hear of your "trash" problem, but know how some people get a bee in their bonnet when they are in a position of authority and abuse that priviledge, not remembering WHO voted them into it! Maybe they will realize they don't hold all the power during the time it comes for their re-election!
Your syrup is beautiful.
So glad you are able to do some remodeling on your kitchen and make it a more comfortable constructive space. I Love my wide kitchen AND having the washer and dryer in there, and not down in the basement! :)
And this summer we will be building a porch across the back of our whole house, and widening the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom, so the mess will make me crazy, but the end product will be SO worth it! I am so excited. Can't wait to see how yours comes along too! I still have those things you wanted set aside, and now that I'm feeling better I will stop by soon for a visit!
Love Aunt Kathi *Hugs*
